ORTHODONTIC STRAIGHT TALK

DON’T JUST WISH FOR A BETTER SMILE

When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you wish you had a more attractive smile?  Then why not make a
change for the better?  After all, braces are not just for kids.  Teeth can be straightened at any age.  Unlike the
clothes and shoes you buy to improve your appearance, a new smile will last for the rest of your life.

A LIFELONG INVESTMENT IN YOURSELF

When you consider the cost of orthodontic treatment, also consider the lifelong benefits of a beautiful, healthy
smile.  Many former patients have said that it is the best investment they ever made – an investment in themselves.

BRACES AND YOUR LIFESTYLE

You probably want to know if braces will interfere with your lifestyle.  Absolutely not!  You can do anything with
braces – sing, play a musical instrument, dine out, kiss, and even have your picture taken.

WHEN SHOULD TREATMENT BEGIN?

There is no one answer to this because each orthodontic problem determines it’s own best starting time.  For this
reason the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should visit an orthodontist no later
than age seven.  This may surprise you because orthodontic treatment is usually associated with adolescence.  An
early examination, however, allows the orthodontic specialist to determine when a child’s particular problem
should be treated for maximum improvement with the least time and expense.  In many patients early treatment
achieves results that are unattainable once the face and jaws have finished growing.

WHAT ABOUT ADULT TREATMENT?

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and about fifty percent of orthodontic patients today are
adults.  The biological process involved in tooth movement is the same in both adults and children.  The health of
an individual’s teeth, gums and supporting bone is the most important factor in determining the prospects for
improving an adult’s smile and dental health.
